Memorial Day

This photo.....I was serving in the Corps at the time I first saw this picture and it choked me up immediately.  I instantly saw my son in this young lads position (I am getting misty writing this thinking about it).  It is still an extremely powerful image to me personally. 

5 July, 1946...a TRUE date that should live in Infamy!!

French engineer Louis Réard introduced the modern bikini. It modeled by Micheline Bernardini, on July 5, 1946, the name for his design borrowing from the Bikini Atoll, where post-war testing on the atomic bomb were taking place.

Much needed after a 4 day weekend!  4 Day you say?  How in blue blazes were you lucky enough for a 4 day weekend?  Well, My son is getting out of the Army soon and is doing a diddy move from Fort Brag back here to Virginia Beach.  So....I drove my truck down to him on Friday.  Yep.....3 1/2 hours down, 3 1/2 hours back...just to drop off a truck.  What will we not do for our kids? 

The dream is alive.  I have my eye on a 8.5 acre chunk of land on a wide running trout stream in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  It is literally at the end of the road with no houses anywhere and 15 minutes from a small town.....in other words...PERFECT!!!

Ya know?  I was just thinking about this very thing.  The one thing that has changed in my life is that I am now working from home vice driving 10 minutes to my office.  Other than that, nothing has changed.  It has made me realize that I do spend a LOT of time at home and not out.

What would either of these men think about what the government, on both the state and national levels, is doing?  One can read their quotes but I find that, just like you can find a quote in the Bible to justify anything you want to do, their words can likewise can be twisted.  

The Legend of Joe

Legend has it that "coffee" got the nickname of "Joe" when in 1914, Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels banned alcohol on board Navy ships.  Up until that time, rum was a daily ration for Sailors.  So the only thing left, the strongest thing, was coffee.  The Sailors began calling it "Joe" as a form of mockery. 

No matter how coffee became known as Joe, the name stuck.
